When You Feel Like You're in a Funk
There are seasons in life that make no logical sense.
Nothing is falling apart on the outside. Work is moving. Your responsibilities are being met. You haven't lost anything tangible, and yet, something inside you feels like it's collapsing.
You wake up carrying a heaviness you can't explain. There's a lump in your throat that refuses to leave. You feel the urge to cry, to scream, to disappear for a little while. Everything feels too much, even though, by all appearances, everything is "fine."
These are often the moments we judge ourselves the most.
"Why am I feeling this way?"
"Am I being dramatic?"
"Why can't I just snap out of it?"
But what if this isn't a sign that something is wrong with you?
What if it's a sign that something old no longer fits?
Sometimes growth doesn't arrive as excitement or clarity. Sometimes it arrives as friction. As restlessness. As an internal pressure that your mind cannot yet explain. Parts of you are shedding. Old identities are loosening their grip. Your inner world is reorganizing itself before your outer world catches up.
And that process can feel like a tower moment.
Not because your life is collapsing, but because the version of you that carried you this far is making space for the one you're becoming.
Then, almost unexpectedly, there comes a tiny moment.
A deeper breath.
A softer chest.
A glimpse of peace.
The emotional storm that felt unbearable suddenly begins to dissolve, and you may even find yourself questioning your own experience.
"Did I overreact?"
No.
You didn't overreact.
Your nervous system, your heart, your inner world were responding to something real, even if your conscious mind couldn't name it. Not every transformation comes with an explanation. Sometimes your being knows long before your thinking mind does.
Resilience is not built only through the challenges we understand.
It is also built through the ones we learn to stay with.
So if you find yourself in one of these seasons, don't rush to fix yourself.
Instead, create a refuge.
- Light a candle.
- Wrap yourself in a blanket.
- Take a slow walk without needing answers.
- Sit in silence.
- Pray.
- Meditate.
- Call the friend who doesn't try to solve you but simply knows how to sit beside you.
Offer yourself comfort, not because you are weak, but because comfort is part of healing.
Grounding matters.
But so does tenderness.
You don't have to earn compassion by proving that your pain is logical.
You don't have to justify your heaviness for it to deserve care.
If today feels like a tower moment, trust that it may also be a threshold.
Not the end of you.
The becoming of you.
And until the light returns, remember this:
You don't have to walk through these seasons alone.
